SPOKANE, WA – February 1, 2011 – The Spokane International District invites the greater Spokane community to celebrate the Chinese New Year this Saturday, February 5, 2011. The district is partnering with Best Asian Market and the East Spokane Business Association to put on the event, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Best Asian Market, located at 1801 East Sprague Avenue.
In the spirit of giving back, businesses in the district will be recognizing customers. A lion dance will take place along Sprague Avenue
beginning at Best Asian Market continuing to Vien Dong Restaurant and will stop by the Checkerboard Tavern before crossing the street and heading down the opposite side. Free fortune cookies will be available at participating businesses.
The Chinese New Year has been celebrated in the Spokane International District for several years as an opportunity to show appreciation to customers and friends who support the area. Impact Capital will be documenting the festivities to use for future business marketing and publicity about the District’s evolution. “We are excited to participate in the festivities,” says Boris Borisov, program officer for Impact Capital.
The Spokane International District was launched in 2009 as part of Impact Capital’s Vibrant Communities Initiative. The program works with partners on the ground to strengthen neighborhood commercial districts, increase public safety and cleanliness, create parks and open space, improve educational opportunities and help families build assets. “The Chinese New Year Celebration highlights Spokane’s diversity in a fun way,” says LaVerne Biel, president of the East Spokane Business Association, one of the organizations working on neighborhood revitalization in the Spokane International District.
