AmericanWest Bank Donates $2500 to Support Vibrant Communities in Spokane

SEATTLE, WA - March 17, 2010 - AmericanWest Bank, a new supporter of Impact Capital, has donated $2,500 to support the neighborhood revitalization work in the Spokane International District as part of the Vibrant Communities program.

Founded in 1974, AmericanWest Bank is headquartered in Spokane, with 58 locations throughout Washington and Idaho. While attending Impact Capital's Angels and Demons fundraising event at the Montvale Hotel in Spokane, Vice President and Community Reinvestment Officer Cheryl Simpkins had the opportunity to learn about Impact Capital's Vibrant Communities program and the positive changes it was brining to the International District. She decided American West had to get involved.

"I am very impressed with the vision that Impact Capital and SNAP have for the district," explained Ms. Simpkins. "The neighborhood appears to be embracing the revitalization concept, and there are visible signs of improvement."

Impact Capital is also no stranger to Spokane. In fact, they have been working in the region for nearly 20 years. Impact Capital has made over 40 loans for affordable housing and community real estate development projects where traditional financing was not available.

In 2009, Impact Capital partnered with the City of Spokane and SNAP to launch a Vibrant Communities project in the Spokane International District located within the East Central Neighborhood. The Vibrant Communities Program works with stakeholder on the ground to strengthen neighborhood commercial districts, increase public safety and cleanliness, create parks and open space, improve educational opportunities and help families build assets.

"We are delighted to bring in new partners like AmericanWest Bank to support our work in Spokane," says Heyward Watson, CEO of Impact Capital. "As the momentum builds and more community partners join in our efforts, we are beginning to see the long-term transformation of this neighborhood into a place where people are proud to live, work, and raise their families."
