In her Annual Statement of the Conditions & Affairs of the City to City Council, Spokane Mayor Mary Verner said the City must focus on the future possibilities that will arise from these tough economic times and insisted now is the time to pursue new ideas and new ways of doing business.
The Mayor delivered the address during the regular legislative session of the City Council on Monday, October 12, as required by the Spokane City Charter. In her statement, the Mayor highlighted the City’s accomplishments since the beginning of 2009 and spoke about partnerships in economic development:
"Our work in the University District is an example of our economic development strategy called Targeted Area Development. Because we have limited resources, we are focusing our efforts in key areas where we believe there are immediate potentials and partnerships in place. The expanding effect of the University District into the East Sprague International District, where Impact Capital is applying resources, is an example."
