This training will provide developers, public funders and other interested participants with some key strategies for highly effective construction management.   The training will focus on a few critical parts of the construction management process, including: 

  • Improving risk management from the very beginning, by defining project scope, creating a project management plan and understanding who controls design.
  • Best practices related to contracting, including different contract types and sub-contractor issues.
  • Top-notch budget management, including issues related to change orders, hidden contractor profit centers, and handling contingencies.


Participants will learn how others - including their own experienced peers in the room - approach certain construction management challenges. They will leave with specific tips about how they can maintain more control over the construction management process for future projects.  


About the trainer

Harlan Falkin is a certified construction manager and president of Falkin Associates since 1981. In addition to executive responsibilities as president of Falkin Associates, Harlan has experience in various building projects as Owners Representative and Lender Representative. Specific owner Representative responsibilities include design and construction team selection, project budget development, schedule development, design and construction coordination. Lender representative experience includes construction document review for completeness, budget analysis, application for payment review and construction observation for conformance with contract documents.
