Impact Capital held its inaugural Breakfast Series event on Monday April 27 at its offices in Pioneer Square. Sponsored by the Boeing Employees’ Credit Union, Todd Pietzsch, BECU Manager of Public Relations, provided opening remarks and commented on BECU’s commitment to the community and long-term investment in Impact Capital. The morning event provided an opportunity for over 30 attendees from the community development and affordable housing industry to network and learn more about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and its potential impacts on funding in Washington. Also present were several of Impact Capital’s Board and staff members who enjoyed the occasion to engage with borrowers and investors who work with Impact Capital on projects around the region.
Panelist Buzz Roberts, Senior Vice President for Policy and Program Development at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) gave a federal policy update and provided particular focus on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Speaking about the $89 million dollars allocated to AmeriCorps through the recently signed legislation Kennedy Serve America Act, he shared with the group how LISC utilizes the program’s volunteers throughout the country towork on community development and neighborhood revitalization projects.
CEO Heyward Watson commented that the breakfast “was a great event for our valued partners and investorsto learn about a topicimpacting the industry. Bringing someone from Washington, DC with a national perspective gives our community an opportunity to learn about what is going on in Congress that will directly affect us here.”
Impact Capital hopes to host another Breakfast Series event later in the year. If you’re interested in being added to the invite list, please contact Magda Herrera.
